A Lily - Wake:Sleep [2006]

Genre: Electronica, Ambient, IDM, Experimental

My opinion & thought: A Lily's music just blow my mind away, what a great work from James Vella of Yndi Halda. A great album where sweet & delicious electronica meet ambient music.

Stands out track(s): Lights Shone Brighter, My Delicate SunIs My Sparklin' Sun

Dynamophone Records, purveyors of delicious music, proudly present wake:sleep, the debut album from A Lily. A gentle album of dulcet guitar-laced electronics and soporific landscapes masterfully crafted by Yndi Halda guitarist James Vella.

A Lily is James Vella, better known as the guitar player of the great British instrumentalists Yndi Halda, of Burnt Toast Vinyl and Big Scary Monsters Records.

Born into a musical family - his mother works as a music teacher and he is directly descended from the composers Giuseppe and Luigi Vella - but favouring creative writing over music until his teens, James could hardly play an instrument until he ventured into a guitar shop shortly before his 15th birthday. He formed a band with his best friends (Yndi Halda), and they learned to play their instruments together whilst struggling with adolescence.

A Lily was born out of wide-eyed gentleness and sleey-eyed haze that couldn't be expressed in Yndi Halda, and so, laptop and guitar in hand, and with a head full of ideas, James began to write computer music.

Currently writing love songs for Leanna, the entirety of wake:sleep is for her.
