The Devil Wears Prada - Plagues (Re-release) [2008]

Genre: Christian, Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, Screamo

MySpace: tdwp

My opinion & thought: Screaming, jumping, moshing in the Christian way. The modern Christian music are divided into lots of music genre that you can't ever imagine, even in metalcore music.

Stands out track(s): Hey John, What's Your Name Again?

The Devil Wears Prada (often shortened to TDWP) is a Christian metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio. They are currently signed to Ferret Records. They derived their name from the book with the same title.

In 2005, they released a demo entitled "Patterns of a Horizon." Their first full length album was released on August 22, 2006, entitled Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, which featured guest vocals from Cole Wallace of Gwen Stacy. The album mixed metalcore with elements of electronica. Plagues, which was released onAugust 212007 and featured Craig Owens of Chiodos, still kept the metalcore sound. A demo song called "HTML Rulez d00d" was placed on MySpace on July 1,2007, and the song in its entirety was released as the third track on the album. On July 11, AbsolutePunk.net began to stream their song "Don't Dink and Drance." In a recent interview with East Coast Romper, the band states their influences are Underoath and Still Remains. Mike Hranica, the band's vocalist, also manages a clothing company called SHiPSHAPE Clothing with which he sponsors and endorses bands. Some of Shipshape's sale money goes to charities such as Skate 4 Cancer, etc; They will begin writing and recording a new album after the Warped Tour for a planned release of April 2009.

It has been announced via the bands official myspace that they will be debuting a new song off their upcoming record this fall while on tour with UnderoathSaosin,The FamineP.O.S., and Person L. All three of those bands will be touring at different times throughout the tour, none of them will tour the whole tour.

The band participated in Taco Bell's 2008 installment of Feed the Beat. On October 24, the band went through to the first round as one of the top 24 bands, and continued through to the top 12 bands. On November 7, the band was eliminated from the final round. It is said that the band is currently working on material for a new album.

Song title origin:

  • The song "Number Three Never Forget" is a reference to Dale Earnhardt.
  • The song "Nickels Is Money Too" is a reference to an episode of Metalocalypse called "Skwisklok" in which all the members get an endorsement and Pickles endorsement is nickels. He says in a commercial "Hey, nickels is money, too." It is also a reference to The Devil Wears Prada's first show in Canada in Toronto, Ontario, on July 18th, 2007 during the Sounds of the Underground tour. A group of four friends had been hanging out with bassist Andy Trick and keyboardist/synthist James Baney and they had asked to see Canadian money. Sadly, one of the four only had a nickel to show and apologized. In return, they said "That's okay, nickels is money, too."
  • The song title "Reptar, King of the Ozone" is from an episode of the children's television program, Rugrats. This can be seen on some of the band's merchandise.
  • Some of the pre-ordered CD of Plagues came signed by all the band members, has a white CD and the booklet is darker than the album bought at stores, which has a black CD and lighter booklet.
